Your AI bill has room to breathe.

Before switching providers or rewriting your product, find out where the spend actually goes. A few measured changes often do more than chasing a cheaper headline rate.

01

Give every request a reason

Tag usage by feature, customer, and model. Measure input, output, retries, and failed requests together. Start with the busiest feature, not the smallest line on the invoice.

Look for long histories, repeated instructions, and answers that are much longer than the interface can use. Reduce those first, then compare both cost and answer quality on the same examples.

02

Buy only the capability you need

Route predictable, low-risk tasks to a less expensive model after testing it. Reserve more capable models for cases where they measurably improve the result. Set a retry ceiling so one hard request cannot create an endless bill.

03

Make the budget visible

Track cost per successful task and set alerts before your monthly limit. If you use discounted credits, measure savings against usable balance and expiry, rather than treating the full face value as cash saved. Keep ordinary billing ready for the day the balance runs out.
